Architecture
The Konrad-Adenauer-House is limited to a heigth of 18 meters, as are the surrounding buildings. Two upright attic floors highlight the corner block at the Lütkowplatz. Only the ground floor of the office building spans across the entire reach of the plot boundary.
From above, it stands out as an elipse-formed body of construction. From the first until the fourth floor, it is completely surrounded by a glass rhombus that takes up the entire plot boundary and encloses the structure with a winter garden.
On the fifth and sixth floors, the structure grows out of its glass-made outer skin. A roof garden was created on the north-western point of the sixth floor. An apparatus was also installed on the roof that produces energy and then sends in on to the network of the Berlin energy provider BEWAG.
The wide front entrance leads visitors into the light-filled foyer. The areas that are open to the public are housed throughout the ground floor. The conference rooms can be sealed off from the rest of the building, or they can be used as a main foyer for larger events. Wide window fronts provide a clear view of the Landwehr Canal. The reception of visitor groups as well as federal specialty committee meetings, trade conferences, and presentations take place in the three conferences rooms. The press conferences are mostly held in the foyer.
One arrives on the first floor by climbing a representative staircase from the foyer that leads to a exceptional lobby. The entrances to the winter garden and access to the federal management committee room are located there. The three-sided glass exterior provides a wonderful panoramic view of the city through the winter garden. The wooden facade is composed of wood native to the area.
